LOS ANGELES 2028 OLYMPICS
This is my version of the visual identity for the LA 2028 Olympics. I designed numerous elements that would be necessary for the Olympics as an in-class project.
1. Overview
The objective of this project is to develop a cohesive visual brand identity for the 2028 Summer Olympics, to be held in the United States. This challenge provides an opportunity to showcase my graphic design skills by crafting a unique and impactful visual identity across various end products.
The project involves thorough research and analysis of the historical, cultural, and geographical elements related to the event and its host country. This exploration will inform and guide my design concepts, enabling me to create a visual brand identity that captures the essence of the Olympics, reflects its significance, and resonates with a diverse global audience. The goal is to produce a brand identity that is both distinctive and meaningful, effectively representing the 2028 Summer Olympics and engaging viewers worldwide.
2. Research
To develop a visual brand identity for the 2028 Summer Olympics, I conducted extensive research on Los Angeles, the host city, despite not having visited it personally. My research focused on understanding what makes the city unique and appealing to its residents and visitors.
Los Angeles is known for its warm climate and its proximity to both beaches and desert landscapes. The city is renowned for its vibrant beach culture, including popular boardwalks and piers that offer a range of recreational activities. Additionally, Los Angeles is home to iconic landmarks such as Hollywood and the Hall of Fame, which celebrate both historic and contemporary celebrities.
The insights gained from this research informed the design of the logo. Common visual themes associated with Los Angeles—such as the beach, sunset, palm trees, the bright sun, and cityscapes—were incorporated into the logo design to reflect the city's essence and appeal. This approach ensures that the visual identity resonates with the city's character and connects with a broad audience.
3. Logo
The process behind the logo design for the 2028 Summer Olympics involved a modern and minimalist approach, emphasizing simplicity and symbolism. I opted for a contemporary aesthetic, utilizing simple geometric shapes and lowercase letters to convey a sleek, approachable look.
The color palette features a gradient that reflects the hues of a sunset, symbolizing the warmth and vibrancy of Los Angeles. The inclusion of palm trees, a widely recognized symbol of the city, represents the iconic beaches along the coast. The logo as a whole is designed to evoke the image of a sunset at the beach, a quintessential scene in Los Angeles.
Additionally, the 'L' in the logo is crafted to resemble the silhouette of a building, subtly referencing the city's dynamic urban landscape. This combination of elements—geometric forms, sunset-inspired colors, and symbolic imagery—creates a logo that encapsulates the essence of Los Angeles in a modern and visually appealing manner.
The tagline "Your Golden Moment" was carefully crafted to inspire and motivate athletes participating in the 2028 Summer Olympics. Drawing inspiration from the phrase "golden hour," which refers to the magical time of day when the light is soft and warm, the tagline encourages athletes to seize their own moment of greatness during the game.
This phrase also carries a dual meaning, subtly referencing the ultimate achievement in the Olympics—the gold medal. By using "Your Golden Moment," the tagline not only motivates athletes to strive for their personal best but also highlights the pursuit of excellence and the possibility of winning the highest honor in their sport.
4. Design System
The color palette was carefully chosen to reflect the colors of the sunset, which were prominently featured in the logo design. These colors were selected to evoke the warmth and vibrancy of Los Angeles, the host city, creating a visually cohesive identity.
